Walking back from Leadville urgent care.

It’s not lupus

But it is tendinitis.

We are hanging out for a zero in Leadville to rest up. A trip to urgent care has shown that Knock’s nagging ankle pain is actually Achilles tendinitis. Fortunately, Leadville is home to Periodic Brewing, Knock’s awesome buddy Ella, and some pretty dope views of the mountains. So there are definitely worse places to be shored up.

It’s hard for me to accept that we’ll need to tone back the miles a bit, especially as we needed to average about 17 mi/day to complete the thruhike. But preventing any long-term injury is more important than finishing the whole trail this season. So, I’m going to tape up my ankle, pop some Aleve twice daily and see how things go. There may be some blue-blazing. There may even be some yellow-blazing. (The horror!) But there’ll also be some more mountains to come.
